Love/Hate

It's been about 3.5 years since I moved to New York.  It's been mostly ups, some downs, and a whole lot of crazy.  Do you remember the SATC episode in which Carrie is "dating" the city?  Right now, that's kind of how I feel.  Yes, it's exhilarating to see all of the wonders, eat all the delicious treats, and explore to no end in this great city.  But sometimes New York just sends a giant pile of horrible sights, smells, and stress your way via the express train.

This weekend boyfriend and I decided that we will be staying in New York for an additional two years so he can finish grad school.  I know this is the smart move in the long run, but the wanderlust inside of me can't help but let out a big "le sigh."  As much as I love this city and everything it's offered, it's not a comfortable way of life to say the least.  I have a 1.5 hour commute each way and it's usually filled with unpleasant people.  Sometimes the express train decides to run local and your commute expands to 2 hours.  Although this is a little nuissance, at times it adds up.

So instead of sulking and being a brat and living in NY for longer than I thought, I figure I need to find a way to make it work.  I made a list, as I love to do if only for the pleasure of crossing items off the list. ( I originally had a bucket list for NY, but I can't seem to find it.  Here is the revised NY bucket list. )

1. Go the the Joyce Theatre.
2. Go to the Maize Maze. (You would think I would have visited one before being from the land of corn aka Indiana, but I haven't.)
3. Go to BAM and see a show.
4. Visit the Bronx Zoo.
5. While up in the Bronx, visit the Botanical Gardens. (They're supposed to have a killer holiday exhibit.)
6. Go to the Museum of Sex. (Hey! Why not?)
7. Take a trapeze class.
8. Taking a pastry class.
9. Visit Rockaway Beach.
10. Take a weekend at Lake George.
11. Try out Aerial Yoga.
12. Go to more concerts, specifically at SOB's.
13. Do some bellydancing.
14. Check out the Maine lobster fest.
15. Realize that my list and love for NY will never end.

  8. I agree with the Cat Hag, you are so lucky to live there. Live it up girl and absorb everything the city has to offer over the next two years. I'll be stopping by for a couple months next summer, hopefully we can meet up then!
