The Runway Translated

Coming from the land of cows and corn doesn't exactly have it's fashion advantages.  There are limited stores (mostly chain) and everyone ends up wearing the same thing.  When I was younger, I hated it.  I didn't want to be like everyone else, especially if everyone else was wearing farm clothes.  I would instead, hop online and tear through the Style.com runway show collections.  I would find looks I love and then translate them to my everyday, non-glamorous life.  Whenever I get in a style rut, I tend to go back and do the same.  It's a great way to stay current and still be unique.

The first thing I've found this season is what I like to call Geometric Minimalism.  These are looks that are very tailored, simply colored, and feature a clean palate with strong shapes.

I adored this collection.  It was all about a sexy simplicity, which is what I try to aim for in my everyday dress.

This collection really made me think about bold moves.  We all know I love me some high slits a la Morticia Adaams!  The use of the blazer also tones down the sex appeal and I realize that I need to put the ones in my closet to more use!

1. Monochrome. Love it. 2. Super blonde.  Gotta get there!

It's ok to add a little color.  I have an aversion to color, unless it's all out "I'm making a statement color."  I tend to stick with black, white, tan, and sometimes red.  I like the infusion of color here though.  It's still clean, unobtrustive, and fun.

So what did we learn today, class?  Clean lines, simplicity, bold statements, and smart structure.

Congratulations to the winners of the Manor Hall giveaway!
