During my many Costume History classes throughout college, I often ran into today's word. Looking back, the shocking accessory seems silly, pretentious, and quite amusing. But what would the world be without a little bit of satorical drama?
Ruff
An interchangeable starched fabric frill worn at the neck of a shirt in Elizabethan England and 16th-century Europe.
In Gareth Pugh's SS2009 collection, his use of ruffs and starchy, crisp pleats took a nod back to Victorian England. However, his use of simply black and white took more of a futuristic approach to the movement of fashion.
